Last week I have lunch with @Sumartok , he’s the founder of @Presentonomics , a company that helps people with their presentation.

I see a lot of people have great ideas in their mind but they’re not able to communicate it in the best way. Maybe the way their presentation look (too much bullets and information in 1 slide) or maybe the way they speak and present themselves. And I really afraid that I could be one of them.

So I asked Sumartok what’s the most important tips for presenting our ideas. And here are some of his answers (it’s tweetable tips so you can click to tweet any tips you like):

1. Understand your audience first before you create your presentation [click to tweet]

I also asked him about how to present in front of foreign audiences. He suggest the content should bring local insights, take from unique angle, learn local habits in the place you do the presentation and you can compare with your own country’s situation.

So, I guess my sleep has nothing to do with the quantity of works that I’m doing. At night, I never had energy to do anything because I already tired. I can’t think much. That’s why I’m so amazed with my journalist friend @shirleydaily  that still can write amazing piece of article at 4 am in the morning after interviewing us at 2 am :))

I prefer to manage my energy. And I think that’s the key. When I’m tired at night, I prefer to read (books, tweets or feeds) and digest new knowledge. In the morning when I wake up, I go straight to writing, making concept, scratching visions, making presentation slides, etc that need full focus & concentration. Later on, I can continue working on my daily operational life such as read and answering 100 emails :))

When I need to go to meetings, between traffic, I always try to have power nap too so I can refresh and at my best condition to follow the meeting.

I find Wunderlist is a perfect to-do list app, so I can easily sync and prioritize on what should be done.

Saya adalah salah satu orang yang menggemari pendelegasian tugas. Sebabnya? Saya tidak ingin terjebak dalam pengerjaan ‘pritilan’ operasional yang akhirnya membuat saya tidak punya waktu untuk menjalankan tugas saya sesungguhnya dalam menjadi pemimpin yaitu maintaining vision, networking and look for new opportunities, dan melakukan inovasi. Bukan berarti proses pendelegasian tugas itu mudah ya… karena kita sering terjebak dengan pemikiran: “Ah, saya bisa melakukannya lebih cepat dan lebih baik, kenapa saya harus serahkan tugas tersebut kepada orang lain?”

I identify myself as an imperfectionist. So, it’s easier for me untuk delegasikan tugas saya kepada team. Kalau Anda belum bisa, give it a try! Kan katanya mau jadi The Lazy Millionaire

Berikut tips untuk pendelegasian tugas yang efektif:

• Ketahui deskripsi tugas yang ingin di-delegasikan. Be spesific. Saya biasanya mendelegasikan tugas yang sudah sering saya lakukan, sehingga mudah untuk melakukan briefing kepada team
• Pilih orang yang tepat, preferably yang sudah terbiasa mengerjakan most tasks yang Anda ingin delegasikan. Jika Anda seperti saya yang sibuk, tentu Anda tidak ingin harus memberi penjelasan berkali-kali untuk suatu tugas. What’s the point of delegating kalo begitu?
• Beri ruang pada anggota tim Anda untuk melakukan inisiatif pada tugas tersebut. Ini bagian dari pengembangan diri mereka dan apresiasi untuk mereka
• Spesific deadline and result. Terangkan Anda ingin tugasnya kapan selesai dan hasil seperti apa yang Anda harapkan
• Jaga komunikasi. Sediakan waktu untuk support dan review tugas yang sedang dikerjakan
• Beri penghargaan jika tugas dapat diselesaikan dengan baik dan tepat waktu

Tapi ada satu hal yang belum bisa saya delegasikan: masalah uang. Jadilah urusan transfer, cek transaksi, dan lainnya masih saya kerjakan sendiri. Untung sekarang banyak fasilitas seperti Internet Banking dan Mobile Banking. Kalau lagi ada koneksi internet yang bagus ya pake Internet Banking. Kalau nggak, tetap bisa leluasa pake M-Banking. Karena saya pake Indosat Mobile, tinggal klik Indosat World untuk pake M-Banking. Urusan bisnis pun lancar :D

Good luck & start delegating!

Bagi saya pribadi, sukses itu saat kita sudah bisa memberi dan berbagi ke lebih banyak orang. Saat bisnis atau apapun yang kita kerjakan bisa memberikan benefit atau manfaat ke sebanyak mungkin orang.

Bagaimana caranya menuju sukses? Saya percaya sukses itu bisa terjadi dengan dukungan banyak faktor. Yang pertama, you have to have a purpose. Apa yang memotivasimu melakukan ini semua. Also define, visi kamu apa. Apa yang kamu inginkan terjadi 5 atau 10 tahun lagi. You have to know that first. Kemudian, mulai bikin jalan menuju tujuan akhir kamu itu. Pecah kecil-kecil mimpimu dalam to-do list yang diberi deadline (limited time), agar dapat segera teraih. Komitmen dan konsistensi juga mutlak diperlukan di sini.

Faktor lain yang tak kalah penting untuk percepatan sukses adalah teknologi dan telekomunikasi. Semua bisnis yang saya rintis berbasis teknologi. Teknologi itu lah yang kemudian membantu saya mewujudkan mimpi dan visi saya yang sudah tercetak di kepala. Jangan remehkan komunikasi juga, karena miskomunikasi bisa menyebabkan kesalahpahaman yang tidak perlu dan tidak efektif untuk usaha yang sedang kita jalankan.

Sering kita khawatir dengan banyak hal yang berhubungan dengan komunikasi terutama masalah harga atau tarif service. Kita takut melakukan pemborosan yang tidak efisien sehingga akhirnya ketika berkomunikasi justru kita terburu-buru. Ujungnya, poin penting yang ingin kita sampaikan justru tidak tersampaikan dengan jelas. Komunikasi yang berusaha dilakukan juga menjadi percuma. Untuk mengirim SMS, kadang-kadang malas juga karena merasa lebih enak langsung menelepon. Jadi serba salah!

Jam bisnis yang paling sibuk biasanya antara pukul sebelas siang hingga tiga sore. Pada jam sibuk seperti itu, jumlah yang harus ditelepon tentu lebih banyak. Mulai dari client, business partner, kolega, media, hingga teman dan keluarga. Business talk pun biasanya harus dijabarkan secara detail dan saya tidak mau terburu-buru ketika berbicara. Komunikasi memang sepenting itu. Tapi bagaimana caranya agar di saat yang sama, biayanya juga efisien?

Saya kemudian mendengar tentang Indosat Mobile. Thus, there are times in my life, when I thought I haven’t create anything for the day and I can’t sleep. Then I create a new blog, and I can sleep well :))

What I often heard from people, on why they’re not pursuing their dream, doing what they want to do, achieve more, is lack of time.

“I don’t have time.”

But isn’t it strange that we all have the same amount of time as brilliant Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Mark Zuckerberg, etc. Why they seem to have more time to build such empire & wealth?

And that’s not all. Describing me need more than 140 characters :))

My attitude towards time is this: I make time.

If needed, I will sleep less.

Now that you already know and set your mindset, I will tell you the technical how-to & how I work.

My typical day started at 5 am. Sometimes earlier around 4 am. That will give me 5 hours sleeping and I already fresh.

I will start my day with reading latest news from Fireboard in my iPad. I read mostly about technology and writing. This is also how I try to seek inspirations for my startups or for my writings. If I found great content, I will immediately share it too to twitter. This way I indirectly maintain my followers too.

7 am, I will start writing (while having breakfast and sip my herbal tea). If I have a book writing project, I will continue writing it. If I don’t, I will write blog posts. I write with target & schedule (not only in writing actually but also in business). And that make me focus on finishing my book. If after some calculation, to finish a 200 pages book in 2 months, I have to write 2 hours per day, and must produce 3 pages on that 2 hours, then I’ll do it. If I can’t make it today, then I’ll bring it tomorrow, so my target would be heavier, 6 pages for the same 2 hours. Consistency and commitment to fulfill the deadline is what I believe.

Writing with target doesn’t mean you don’t love what you write (because it sounds too mechanic). I’m pretty much in love with my writing, and I love my readers most. That’s why by finishing the book on time, I believe I can give benefits to my readers faster, and that’s what motivate me.

9 am. Start checking emails. I received around 100 emails a day. All kinds of it. And they’re not spam. All invitations to speak, meeting, and schedule related, I forward it to my assistant @navikaanggun . All emails with documents, agreements, proposals goes to my other assistant to read and make a summary for me. All emails that needed research also goes to my assistant. I personally answer interviews from media, emails from my business partners & associates, friends and everyone that I think only me can answer. Yes, I delegate, so I can have more time to think conceptual, find new opportunities and think about ‘what’s next’.

11 am. I go to either a meeting (about works) or to office. I choose 11 am to avoid crazy morning traffic. But yeah, even at 11 am I still got stuck in some points of the streets. I read book or magazine on the way. I also write. Maybe business ideas. Plans. Or poetry.

To see clearly of what I have to achieve today, or this week, or this month, I use Mind Map app on iPad called MindNode. It’s very useful to write down whatever on my mind and make plan. I also use MindNode for outline writing, early stage of book writing. And also to solve problems. If you don’t have iPad, you could use a piece of paper and pen to create your mind map. Read a book Mind Map by Tony Buzan.

To write poetry or note taking while meetings, I use Evernote apps that would sync my note from iPad, iPhone to laptops.

15 pm, after the meetings over, I’ll get back to my office. I still pretty much working behind desk. I must meet my partners once in a while and communicating with my team. I’ve been the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) for my startups. And it’s important for me to make sure that everything’s under control, technology wise.

17 pm,  the activities will vary. Another meeting is usually on schedule. Mostly will be in a form of networking sessions, executing ideas, business talks, community related meeting, interview with journalists, invitation to events, speak in an event, sharing & discussion with people, etc. I’ve been running community events like #StartupLokal, Girls in Tech Indonesia, Fresh Forum and Bincang Edukasi. So this is also the time to think about ‘em.

21 pm, if I’m lucky I should be home by now. Do light email checking. Plan checking. Reading books. Keeping up with friends. Or exploring things that I want to do next. Including: traveling

midnight, sleep.

“Don’t you have a life?”

Of course I have :))

I do what I love, which is precious and keep me wake up every day. And that’s living!

I have the bliss of time flexibility, meaning, I can go to beauty salon on Monday morning and go to Bali the next day, just because I want to take picture of sunset. For me, everyday is (as fun as) holiday.

So this is pretty much, my life, and I enjoy it.

One of the thing that will make me look more productive than other is that I make my plans and ideas happen. I act on it.

For me, the right time is always: NOW.

Girls have been asking me on how to look cool, even if you’re a hijaber. So, I’m going to write some fashion tips according what I’ve been doing all these times.

Many of you should have known about what’s happened in my life recently. And through the process, I lost a lot of weight. About 10 kgs. And that really what makes me buying new size of clothes and surprised myself that I could fit into Levi’s size 26 (okay, maybe now it’s 27 hehe).

Because I have to buy new clothes anyway, I decided to change my style. I tried to learn on how to shine with fashion, of course to boost my self confidence, so I can feel good and make the best first impression for everybody that meet me.

A year ago, my style would be t-shirt/shirt + jeans. That’s all. It was blah. Now, I’m going to share Ollie fashion tips!

Use something fit

When I lose weight, I always thought that my old clothes are fine with me. That’s totally wrong. It looks baggy and make me looks like I’m drowning in my clothes. Look yourself in the mirror, are you using that 1 size bigger tee you bought on sale, or you just don’t care because that’s all you have on top of your drawer? Ask your girl friends to shop with you. Let them see you in the clothes. If it’s fit, it always look good on you.

Shop smart: Mix & Match

By now maybe you already whine on how to shop more because you simply don’t have the budget. Well, I didn’t have much budget on fashion either. I do mix and match. I bought expensive basics and combine it with something I bought from Matahari or the vintage market like Pasar Senen. I rarely wear only 2 piece of clothes, I must add something like vest, blazer, jacket, or coat.

Invest in great jeans

Great pair of jeans will save your day. Make sure you have at least 1 jeans that flatter your looks. My favorite jeans are from Levi’s. And this is not a paid post hehe. Expensive jeans also make you want to lose weight immediately when it started to unfit :p

Be different

I like to shop for unique pants. That will immediately boost my appearance. People notice it immediately. Just bought something that is not the same from other people. Throw away that standard black trousers. Everybody are wearing them.

Get a fabulous shoes

In terms of shoes, I’d go for basics. Strappy shoes in nude color like light brown that will go nicely with my brown bag. Also nude color shoes in pastel pink because I like the color. Some basic black and white. And a pair of shoes to kick my mood: bloody red. All with heels, 3 inch minimum. It’d correct your posture. I only have 1 black flat shoes I wear when I go to vacation.

Get accessories

Even on a regular tee + jeans, you can boost your appearance with great accessories. Pick eye catching bangles, necklace, rings, or scarf to go with it. Also get a stylish oversized belt. It will be very useful at any circumtances. The scarf I wear in the picture below is masterpiece from @lazulisarae  combining denim + batik

Choose your statement

Fashion statement it’s that one thing you want to speak thru your fashion. Maybe today my fashion statement is my flowery pants. Maybe tomorrow it’s my red shoes. Just wear a statement that make girls give you that 3 seconds look or even ask where did you buy your outfit. You have to have it everytime.

Watch for trends

You might want to browse on some fashion blogs and copied style that you love and currently IN. Like leopard prints shoes or bags :P

Be confident

Last but not least, you have to trust yourself and be confident on wearing what you choose for today. The key is feeling good. If any of outfit you choose make you uncomfortable, change it immediately and never wear it again. Because it will never make you feel good anyway. You just forgot that it ever make you feels bad.

By the way, one thing I always do when I wear a ‘wrong’ kind of outfit of the day, is just drop by at the shopping mall, go to my favorite boutique, buy a new outfit, and wear it right away to replace my current clothes. And that’s it. I feel fabulous!

Apa sih ini? Kok suami Ollie ganti?

Well… ini hanya terjadi di Rich Game yang diadakan oleh Financial Planner kondang mas Aidil Akbar dan team di Es Teler 77, Jl. Adityawarman. Di tempat itu berkumpul tim Kutukutubuku.com, Maverick, CuriPandang.com, MetroTV dan lainnya. Wah seru dan rame banget!

Cara bermainnya mirip dengan monopoli. Intinya, dengan uang yang ada, dan pengeluaran yang sudah diberitahu di depan, kita diharapkan bisa mengatur keuangan saat ada pengeluaran mendadak atau ada peluang investasi. Simulasi cerdas untuk kehidupan nyata saat ini.

Permainan pun dimulai. Saya dan ‘si papih’ pilihan @dody_rochadi  memulai permainan dengan lempar dadu. Tapi ternyata hidup nggak memihak pada kami. Baru 30 menit bermain kami sudah BANGKRUT. What…! How could that happened? Kami punya gaji terbesar, For God’s Sake! *emosi-beneran*

Setelah pertengkaran suami istri yang biasa terjadi saat ada masalah keuangan, saya mencoba menganalisa masalah saya dengan ‘si papih’:

• Setiap team mendapatkan ‘modal’ dari banker sebesar 1500, kami membelanjakannya untuk membeli  investasi emas. Cukup konvensional. Si Papih tidak ingin mengambil resiko, dan mamih pun hayuh aja. Di kemudian hari, ternyata aset kami tidak cukup dan keputusan keuangan apapun yg kami ambil kayaknya juga nggak ngaruh :p
• Kami harus membayar pengeluaran tak terduga yang cukup besar: membetulkan atap rumah -_-
• Sh*t happens in life, and in our case, it happens twice! We hit the STOP button twice! That means… Si Papih nggak gajian 2x, sedangkan pengeluaran bulanan terus ada. FYI, tak hanya penghasilan yang terbesar, pengeluaran kami juga paling besar!
• We never get bonuses. Not once! Jadi kita benar-benar hidup dari gaji suami yang jadi dokter spesialis. Begitu Si Papih ga bisa praktek 2 bulan, maka bangkrutlah keluarga kita. Tanpa perlawanan. Bangkrut. Gitu aja.
• Aset kami hanya emas dan asuransi. Ternyata saat di jual, tidak ada teman yang mau ‘membantu’ dengan membeli emas tersebut dengan harga jauh di atas harga pasar. They’re just human after all. They also need their cash.

For me, lesson learnt!

• Suami dokter spesialis (kaya raya) bukan jaminan bahagia LOL
• Harus punya dana darurat minimal 6 bulan pengeluaran per bulan sebelum mikir investasi. Shi*t happens! A lot!
• Harus punya penghasilan tambahan! Ayo mamih… dagang!!

Saya penasaran, karena yakin senyum itu menularkan energi positive pada orang lain dan juga membuat kita lebih energized. Itu pasti salah satu kunci sukses mereka.

Pada suatu malam guru saya di TYPSS, Pak Bayu, memaksa kami semua 10 orang untuk tersenyum dengan senyuman yg paling sincere, tak cuma bibir, mata dan wajah harus tersenyum. Senyuman itu harus bertahan selama 1 menit, dan tiap ada yg kurang sincere senyumnya (menurut beliau), maka perhitungan waktu harus diulang kembali. Inilah untuk pertama kalinya saya tersenyum sampai pipi sakit! Tapi surprisingly, begitu semua sudah selesai, saya merasa semua otot wajah sudah smile friendly sehingga kalau tidak tersenyum, malah ada yang terasa aneh dan kurang. Ada imaginary smile line di pipi, yang menunggu untuk dihampiri. Amazing!

Terbukti menjadi murah senyum itu bukan bawaan dari lahir tapi bisa dilatih untuk menambah value kita sebagai manusia di depan manusia lain. Kesuksesan itu bonus!

Ada baiknya kita melakukan deteksi dini sejak awal untuk menghindari kanker yang berbahaya ini. Salah satu caranya adalah dengan SADARI: Periksa Payudara Sendiri.

Bagaimana Cara Melakukan SADARI?

Tahap 1
Sambil berdiri di depan cermin, angkat kedua tangan dan perhatikan apakah payudara Anda simetris. Selain itu lihat juga apakah ada perubahan pada puting, kerutan atau pengelupasan kulit. Gunakan tangan kiri untuk mendeteksi payudara kanan dan sebaliknya, dimulai dari ujung bagian luar, tekan dengan bagian jari yang pipih dengan gerakan melingkar kecil dan bergerak perlahan di sekitar payudara.

Tahap 2
Selanjutnya untuk merasakan adanya perubahan, lakukan deteksi dengan cara berbaring. Dalam keadaan terlentang seperti ini periksa pula lipatan lengan, batas luar payudara dan seluruh permukaan payudara.

Tahap 3
Untuk melihat adanya tanda-tanda pendarahan atau keluarnya cairan dari puting susu, pencetlah bagian puting susu dan lihat apakah ada darah atau cairan yang keluar. Darah dan cairan yang keluar dari puting susu merupakan indikasi adanya penyakit yang meradang.

Lakukanlah SADARI setiap satu bulan sekali untuk mencegah timbulnya kanker payudara yang bisa menyerang kapan saja. Jika Anda menemukan indikasi adanya kelainan pada payudara Anda, segera hubungi tim medis dan lakukan pemeriksaan x-ray (mammografi) untuk memastikan ada tidaknya sel kanker di dalam payudara Anda.

Steve Rubel membuka lecture dengan menguak fakta, bahwa pengguna internet saat ini sudah kebanjiran informasi. Akhirnya, pada saat mereka punya waktu untuk konek ke internet, mereka hanya ‘snacking’ alias mau beraktifitas yang ringan-ringan saja (seperti mantengin twitter :P) dan mereka pun juga jadi malas membaca. Fakta menarik lainnya, customer baru akan percaya dan tergerak untuk mencoba produk atau klik sebuah link dari brand, jika ia sudah melihatnya 3 – 5 kali. Jadi pastikan Anda cukup ‘eksis’ di daerah gaul customer Anda seperti di Facebook atau Twitter.

Jika ranah social media ini adalah negara, maka brand harus menempatkan digital embassies-nya agar dapat menciptakan win-win solution bagi brand dan juga penggunanya. Contohnya, dengan membuka fan page di Facebook sehingga pengguna produk dapat memberikan feedback atau menikmati promosi secara langsung.

Pastikan content dari akun kita di social media itu berlainan sesuai dengan karakter social networking site-nya masing-masing. Apa yang kita bicarakan di twitter bisa jadi berbeda dengan apa yang kita bicarakan di Facebook. Ini karena audience-nya memang benar-benar berbeda.

Bahkan dalam satu social networking site, seperti Twitter, brand bisa membuka lebih dari satu akun untuk memberi pilihan lebih untuk para pengguna brand. Steve mencontohkan akun Starbucks di Twitter yang banyak, sesuai dengan kebutuhan masing-masing. Ada @Starbucks  @StarbucksJobs  @sbuxindonesia  dan lainnya.

Steve Rubel juga berpesan bahwa sekarang ini, Google is your homepage. Website Anda tidak dapat ditemukan di Google, maka tidak ada yang akan mampir ke website anda. We must build a digitally visible business, thus we should be discovered on Google.

Beberapa cara untuk menjadi ‘Google-Visible’ antara lain:

1. Paid search (membayar agar tampil di Google)
2. Owned search (SEO)
3. Earned search (generated content seperti blog post, etc)
4. Social search (Youtube search, Facebook search, Twitter search, etc)

Kuncinya tentu: the more quality content your generating the more you can discovered

Steve Rubel kemudian lanjut bicara tentang data. Uh, satu hal yang paling saya ignore sepanjang sejarah berbisnis adalah data. Mungkin karena saya nggak begitu suka angka (kecuali berbentuk duit :p).

Misal untuk toko buku online saya, saya mempelajari trend kata kunci ‘buku’ di Indonesia dalam 12 bulan belakangan. Jadi bisa memperkirakan kapan ‘peak season’ dan bisa bersiap untuk menyambutnya dengan buku-buku berkualitas.

2. Look for un-met needs use to plan products and campaign

Baru tau nih ada Youtube insights for audience di sini kita bisa mempelajari trend yang lagi suka ditonton/dicari sama audience dalam kategori umur tertentu dalam wilayah tertentu pula.

3. Map networks to understand how to use them efficient and effective

Steve mencontohkan untuk menggunakan Klout. Tapi buat apa ya kemarin? Krik… krik…

Last but not least, Steve said: if people don’t see u 4-5 times you should engage more!
